Sharpo

These past 2 years have found me very fortunate to have as a friend Eric Sharp (Sharpo to you.) Eric is a wonderful actor, comedian, entrepreneur and most recently daddy. You may remember Eric as Sharpo the Clown in “Liar Liar” with Jim Carrey, “The Aqua Girls”, “Wings”, “In the House” or the totally cool “Abbott and Costello Meet Jerry Seinfeld.” Check out all of Eric’s latest endeavors at www.Sharpo.com

Run like you mean it! Come on its only 50 miles.
Thank you, Eric I am blessed to have you as a friend.

You Complete Me

The running is coming along very well thank you for asking. The other day I met Vern Troyer at one of my favorite Italian restaurants, Miceli’s. He was there with a beautiful woman and another couple having what seemed to be a great time. They sat next to us and when I told him about the Run he gave me the following quote of encouragement.

It's very admirable that you are running in this event for the benefit of the kids.
Good Luck.
Vern Troyer

Thank you, Vern for your gracious support.

My first 20 mile day

I had my first mega run (20 miles) a couple of weeks ago, testing the route and my legs to see if both were up for the challenge. The route seems to possess some inconsistencies, mileage wise, my pedometer (which I have double but not triple checked) and the online map of the route do not agree. There is also a lot of pedestrian traffic but all in all it will be a beautiful place to run.
For those new to this blog, my plan is to run along the ocean on the bike/pedestrian path from Malibu to Torrance and back again. At this point I am committed to the Beach run but am considering other route options.
As for the legs, I have to admit that the first 15 miles were a breeze, the next 2 ½ were hard and the last 2 ½ were a nightmare. The problem is that I ran the first 15 at too fast, leaving me no power for the finish.
But you didn’t tune in to listen to my mindless rattleings on about miles, routes and legs, you want to hear the good stuff, so here it is.
While running through Malibu I saw Gwen Stefani. She was pregnant, of course in an attractive long white summer dress. The Paparazzi was all over her and Gavin who was carrying Kingston. I kind felt sorry for them, being harassed while trying to have a family stroll along the beach, but not sorry enough to miss an opportunity. I cut through the crowd, went up to her and, in a very respectful and polite manner told her about the run and asked for a quote. She looked at me and said “oh I don’t know…good luck?” with a little up glide as to ask if that was good enough. I told her that was perfect, thanked her, waved to Kingston and was on my way. I almost mentioned that she was my friend on Myspace but thought better of it.
So another celebrity quote. I believe I’ve met more celebrities since starting this run than ever before.
Thank you to Gwen Stefani,Gavin and Kingston, the newest stars to grace the blog.

“Good Luck ?’

Stay tuned folk's and keep on truckin'

As you might or most probably do not know, I have been under the weather battling the flu. This has, for the most part curtailed my running activities.
I am however back! I ran for the first time in over 2 weeks this past Monday the 25th again the 27th and capped the week with an eleven mile run on Saturday.
Today I’m headed to the canyon to run a path called Fryman. This is in the hills between The Valley and Hollywood and the views are beautiful. There are lots of hills to climb, which will provide a new set of challenges.
Did I tell you the latest about Britney?
This goes to show you that you should always listen to your instincts and follow your gut.
Just 2 weeks after meeting Britney on the streets of North Hollywood (See Britney Blog) She announced that she was going to pose for photos with children from The St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The proceeds from sale of the photos will go to The Hospital. Isn’t it amazing how we can have an impact on someone? You Go Britney!
Well, I’m off to Fryman, Please let people know about our Run. Ask your friends to Pledge.
Thank you for your support and Keep on Truckin’

ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER RUN

Originally posted Wednesday, March 5, 2008

Nothing exciting to report, except that I ran 10 miles today and am now experiencing the phenomenon of blisters on top of blisters. I'm sure the runners reading this are laughing to themselves and nodding, "Oh yeah." But it is a new thing to me.

Please pledge and pass the word. Thanks for stopping by.

BRITNEY ENCOUNTER

Britney Spears encourages Duffy HudsonOriginally posted Sunday, February 24, 2008

I was heading home from a long run the other day when I passed 2 young ladies who were walking 2 small dogs. I noticed that one of these ladies had long, jet-black hair under a short billed cap with rather expensive-looking, large sunglasses. She was dressed in black sweats and… being a guy, it did not escape me that she had a cute figure and a pretty face under the hair, hat and glasses. I wasn’t a few feet past when it occurred to me that this young lady looked an awful lot like Britney Spears. Did I mention I live one block from the Millennium Dance Complex, where she studies and is currently teaching dance to children?

About a minute passed before it occurred to me that Britney could be a tremendous asset to our project, so I turned around and headed back. Of course she was nowhere to be seen. I ran to the park, figuring they might have gone there to walk the dogs. I spotted them on the far side of the park and ran in the opposite direction of the looped path in order to approach them from the front. I prepared my spiel and hoped for the best.

When we met, I introduced myself and told them about our Run. The Britney look-alike could not have been any nicer. She was polite, friendly, acknowledged the Hospital as a worthy charity, and when I told her we were collecting quotes of encouragement, she laughed and said, “Good luck, run hard.” I thanked them and went on my way.

Ok, I know what you are thinking: jet-black hair, floppy hat and big sunglasses, how do I know it was really her? I’m glad you asked that question.

The next morning, I’m on the phone with Marlo Thomas’ office. I’m telling my “Britney story” to Marlo’s assistant who tells me that she had seen photos of Britney online the previous day and confirmed that Britney was dressed in the exact manner I had described. So, case closed. We have our first celebrity quote…

“Good luck, run hard” ~ Britney Spears.

Thank you all for your support. We have been incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful people join the St. Jude Run Team, and I want to let you know how much we appreciate your enthusiasm. We look forward to working with you to make this a most successful endeavor.
