As you might or most probably do not know, I have been under the weather battling the flu. This has, for the most part curtailed my running activities.
I am however back! I ran for the first time in over 2 weeks this past Monday the 25th again the 27th and capped the week with an eleven mile run on Saturday.
Today I’m headed to the canyon to run a path called Fryman. This is in the hills between The Valley and Hollywood and the views are beautiful. There are lots of hills to climb, which will provide a new set of challenges.
Did I tell you the latest about Britney?
This goes to show you that you should always listen to your instincts and follow your gut.
Just 2 weeks after meeting Britney on the streets of North Hollywood (See Britney Blog) She announced that she was going to pose for photos with children from The St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The proceeds from sale of the photos will go to The Hospital. Isn’t it amazing how we can have an impact on someone? You Go Britney!
Well, I’m off to Fryman, Please let people know about our Run. Ask your friends to Pledge.
Thank you for your support and Keep on Truckin’

HELLO NEWMAN!

These past two weeks have had me down with a nasty cold, but fear not, I am on the mend and shall be running soon.

Wayne Knight from Seinfeld wants you to go the extra mile for the children.I saw Wayne Knight the other day at the supermarket. You know who I mean... Hello Newman from "Seinfeld." I told him about the run and Wayne told me how much he loves the work of St Jude's.

When I asked him for a quote, he replied, "Go the extra mile for the children." What a great guy! Thank you, Wayne, for your support.

Let us all go the extra mile for the children. Please pledge your support now.

ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER RUN

Nothing exciting to report, except that I ran 10 miles today and am now experiencing the phenomenon of blisters on top of blisters. I'm sure the runners reading this are laughing to themselves and nodding, "Oh yeah." But it is a new thing to me.

Please pledge and pass the word. Thanks for stopping by.

BRITNEY ENCOUNTER

Britney Spears encourages Duffy HudsonOriginally posted Sunday, February 24, 2008

I was heading home from a long run the other day when I passed 2 young ladies who were walking 2 small dogs. I noticed that one of these ladies had long, jet-black hair under a short billed cap with rather expensive-looking, large sunglasses. She was dressed in black sweats and… being a guy, it did not escape me that she had a cute figure and a pretty face under the hair, hat and glasses. I wasn’t a few feet past when it occurred to me that this young lady looked an awful lot like Britney Spears. Did I mention I live one block from the Millennium Dance Complex, where she studies and is currently teaching dance to children?

About a minute passed before it occurred to me that Britney could be a tremendous asset to our project, so I turned around and headed back. Of course she was nowhere to be seen. I ran to the park, figuring they might have gone there to walk the dogs. I spotted them on the far side of the park and ran in the opposite direction of the looped path in order to approach them from the front. I prepared my spiel and hoped for the best.

When we met, I introduced myself and told them about our Run. The Britney look-alike could not have been any nicer. She was polite, friendly, acknowledged the Hospital as a worthy charity, and when I told her we were collecting quotes of encouragement, she laughed and said, “Good luck, run hard.” I thanked them and went on my way.

Ok, I know what you are thinking: jet-black hair, floppy hat and big sunglasses, how do I know it was really her? I’m glad you asked that question.

The next morning, I’m on the phone with Marlo Thomas’ office. I’m telling my “Britney story” to Marlo’s assistant who tells me that she had seen photos of Britney online the previous day and confirmed that Britney was dressed in the exact manner I had described. So, case closed. We have our first celebrity quote…

“Good luck, run hard” ~ Britney Spears.

Thank you all for your support. We have been incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful people join the St. Jude Run Team, and I want to let you know how much we appreciate your enthusiasm. We look forward to working with you to make this a most successful endeavor.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, this is really an awesome experience! That a simple idea to run a few miles and raise some money for a wonderful cause can grow, with the assistance of some incredible people to a 50 mile run with a $50,000 goal!!! Thank you Rachel Wolf for your inspiration and work. Did I say 50 mile run? Yes. But no problem right? I’ve done this before, many times…right? Wrong… Never having run more than 10 miles at a single try, I am facing a tremendous challenge. In this blog I’ll keep you posted on my progress, my trials, tribulations, failures and triumphs. So stay tuned and suit up, here we go. I’m heading out now for a 5 or 6 mile run, to get the blood moving. I think I can handle this :)
